Bemoaning Buffy

First Tara made me sick. Then Willow and Tara made me sick. Now Willow makes me sick, too.

And she just said, "I need you, baby." Ugh.

Ah, at first I was disappointed to get home late and consequently miss more than half of Buffy. But from what I saw, maybe I was spared. What up with Spike and his Giles suit? And does anyone else find Giles' purported reason for leaving to be flimsy and unconvincing?

Let's do the Time Warp again...

Due to time zones, I'm just finishing the first half of it. Even so, I agree. Increased tweed in Spike's wardrobe was a disguise to try to hide from his pursuers. I'm a geek. But I own no tweed.

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

Aw, gee wiz, I just spoiled the show for you, didn't I?

I'll think I'll go crawl into bed, where I can do less damage...

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

No harm...Giles explained the leaving thing at the beginning, before the Next Generation rip-off "plot." Hope you didn't crawl on my account.

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

Okay, I'm glad I didn't ruin it.

Since you did see the intro, can you tell me if Giles' reasoning got any further past "I have to leave because my slayer won't learn how to manage her family, pay her bills, go to school, and bust the forces of darkness at the same time as long as I'm there for her to depend on for support and assistance?" That's gotta be the lamest reason for writing out a character I've ever seen. I know ASH wants off the show, but couldn't it have been done in a more convincing manner? *sigh*

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

I'm afraid you nailed it. Yes, rather than setting boundaries and being a man, he made like a wussy and bailed. Seems most un-Giles to me. Would have been better for him to have something, anything, to go away to. Is the Slayer/Watcher thing now optional? I think I missed a memo...

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

Don't be too hard on the guy-- he's getting his own show, after all, had to escape somehow.

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

"I'm getting my own show, so sod off."

Now that would have been a cool way to go.

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

I'm more into being hard on Wheadon. It's his job to make sure his characters stay in character, and I just don't think Giles would do what he's done. I know JW can write, and write well, so there's really no excuse for this rather sad exit strategy.

Is he really getting his own show? What's it about?

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

I'm concerned about Joss' characterizations lately (and I'm sure I'm not alone). Buffy's a limp rag, Xander's on a collision course with a mid-life crisis at 20ish, Anya's Anya (sometimes this is very good), my Tara and Willow thoughts are clear, and he's had to retroactively add a sister as well as shift the sexual ortientation of a main character-- something which would never be accepted in reverse-- to keep things going. There's a sense of "tightness" in the ensemble that's evaporated, and I'm afraid a lot of that's in the writing.

Re: Let's do the Time Warp again...

It's a spin-off for Buffy, for the Brits: Call The Watcher.
