Since my birthday, it seems like I've either been crazy busy or completely shut down, so I haven't written about the highlight of the day: barlow_girl's surprise! Around 1100 Saturday, we headed out to Renton to board the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. Ever since my trip to see her in Chicago in 2005 (and perhaps before then), she's known I'm a big fan of train travel. I love the scenery, the pace, the cameraderie . . . all of it. And I'd heard of the dinner train here, but never went, so it was an amazingly thoughtful gift. The train runs along Lake Washington to the Columbia Winery in Woodinville, and by going during the day, we were able to take in the view along the way. Better still was simply the (largely) uninterrupted time with one another in this busy season. Slowing down together is a beautiful thing, and I look forward to many more birthdays together.
(By the time Amy's birthday rolls around, we'll be married!)
