Long Kiss Goodnight

Christmas movies

Christmas movies are stocking up (get it—stocking? ha!) on my TiVo and in my DVD player. I tend to want to gorge on these as much as on baked goodies, but it's better to just pick a few to enjoy. There are a few traditional standards that I won't miss: It's a Wonderful Life (which I'm saving for a post-Christmas viewing) and Patrick Stewart's version of A Christmas Carol (I also like listening to the audiobook version so I can hear him shout "kalangalang!" and croon an off-key version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"). TiVo also decided I'd like A Christmas Story (one of my brother-in-law's favorites), and I'm snagging The Nightmare Before Christmas because I've never seen it.

I'm also a big proponent of the non-traditional Christmas movie. Number one with a bullet on my list is The Long Kiss Goodnight (get it—with a bullet? ha!), which has a permanent place in my Non-Traditional Christmas Film Festival. A few others eligible choices are Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Batman Returns, and Gremlins.

Other favorites out there, traditional and non?

Not bad. I got stuck watching some weird ones last week -- Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (bleh) and A Boyfriend For Christmas (not bad). I really don't have Christmas favorites, but Serendipity has a Christmas setting at the beginning, and it's one of my favorites in general. ;-)
I notice a theme to these films...
Meet Me In St. Louis is a nontraditional Christmas favorite. It's hard to resist Judy Garland crying in the cold.
If you will, post your review of NightmareBefore Christmas. I've never seen it either and have always wanted to.
Dude, I can't believe you left Lethal Weapon off your list.
Ah! How foolish!
Must be all the eggnog fogging your brain.
AND you left off Pulp Fiction. nothing says Christmas quite like that movie.
I'm completely not remembering the Christmas connection with that one!
Can you believe I've never actually seen It's A Wonderful Life?!

I really did like The Long Kiss Goodnight, but it's been about 5+ years since I've seen it.

However, we just got to see The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and that was the most spectacular movie ever!!!
barlow_girl hasn't seen it yet, either.

Looking forward to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
When do you get to see it?
We always watch Die Hard and Lethal Weapon for our non-traditional. I also like Scrooged (Bill Murray) when I can catch it. Our traditionals include Holiday Inn, The Bishops Wife and White Christmas. The ones that were my childhood favorites that I STILL watch now are Santa Clause is Coming To Town, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and my all time favorite...the animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
I thought of Scrooged, but couldn't decide which category it fit in. Love the toaster.
I was just going to say that Die Hard is one of our favorites... but you beat me.

Scrooged is awesome. I think it's non-tradish.

Sadly I don't think I have any movies to add to this list.

Oh! While You Were Sleeping is a holiday favorite. Or just a favorite.

I really loved The Long Kiss Goodnight but I haven't seen it in years.
Love Actually and Harry Potter are Christmas-y to me.

Charlie Brown Christmas.
"That's what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown"

Muppet Christmas Carol.
I laugh at the same places every year.

And yes, I'm 30 years old. ;)

I'd probably put it under "Non-traditional", but I'm probably going to add "Love Actually" to my every-year Christmas viewing list.
Just a great movie.

Re: movies.

A Muppet Christmas Carol is funny. Not laughing would be wrong.

And i really liked Love Actually, too! :D
I can't believe that White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney was left off the list!! That's the ultimate Christmas movie! And While You Were Sleeping is definitely a great Christmas theme movie too, so I second that above nomination for that one. :o)

Funny, I just watched Die Hard yesterday for the first time in years. Great flick! (Mikal)
