Sick day

Home sick. Unfun. Still getting plenty of work done at least.

Good time with Community Group last night. Good to host again, even if just for a week. Sumit, a new member of our group, rocks my world. He brings so much, and it's encouraging to see someone dive in and engage the way he has. I love growth.

Television personalities almost invariably creep me out. Not actors; just people who are "themselves." Advice-givers give me still more heebs, usually because they have radically different values than mine (which often only appear subtly differ—all the more sinister). For example, today was my first exposure to Suze Orman. She may really know what she's talking about and help a lot of people. That's not even at issue. After two minutes of television time, however, I wanted to run screaming from the room. Just too much. Even without raising questions of ego, idolatry, and self-centeredness, I like my people turned down a few notches from the kind of over-the-top intensity that it seems to take to be on television.

Thank God for remote control.

Heh. So I write a note saying you hadn't written since the 19th, and by the time I post it, you've posted! Go figure.

I know what you mean about TV advice shows. There are very few Christian ones.
Honestly, I often have similar issues with broadcast advice for/from Christians, and with Christian "personalities." The Christian card by itself doesn't always alleviate my heebs.
How odd.

way off topic

A. Feel better.
B. Tell me about Seattle and why I should move there....

Re: way off topic

I've done nothing in the way of B., so here's my shot: Seattle is amazing: beautiful mountains, lots of water and green, temperate climate, active cultural scene, big city and small neighborhood feel all at once. I think it's wonderful.
I feel exactly as you do about Suze Orman. Fingernails on the black board.
hope you start to feel better, Captain. i hear chicken noodle soup works wonders.

*hugs*
Unfortunately it wouldn't have been helpful for my particular illness. But I am feeling better.

"I may not be soup, and I may not come from a store..."
Doctor Phil is...ALWAYS...ON. *shiver*
Reason #234789 why I don't have cable:

I'm sure, within a year, there'll be a Dr. Phil channel.

No thanks. :D
Aaaaaaaaagh!

I don't care how wise he is. He's overexposed & the people on his show don't seem to be listening anyway.
I wish he'd get one so that maybe he'd stop being on the other channels.
i hope you feel better soon!
ps-that's why i don't have cable ;)
1) Feel better soon! I think I'm coming down with something, too, courtesy of my roommate. TSM.

2) Community group is fun. Everyone should have one.

3) Completely agree about the TV personalities. There's no way that "too muchness" is truly their self.

4) Remote Control - before they invented the electronic one, I was my parent's remote. :oP
oooh, i sinned against the apostrophe. the shame!
All is forgiven.
Mmmm. Grace and grammar, together at last! :o]
