Quiet initiative

The remarkable thing about spiritual initiative is that the life and power comes after we "get up and get going." God does not give us overcoming life— He gives us life as we overcome. When the inspiration of God comes, and He says, "Arise from the dead...," we have to get ourselves up; God will not lift us up. Our Lord said to the man with the withered hand, "Stretch out your hand" ( Matthew 12:13 ). As soon as the man did so, his hand was healed. But he had to take the initiative. If we will take the initiative to overcome, we will find that we have the inspiration of God, because He immediately gives us the power of life.

Oswald Chambers My Utmost for His Highest (16 February, "The Inspiration of Sprirtual Initiative")

The morning is gray and quiet; I appreciate that with a smile. Choral music from Taizé plays in the background. I've just finished my coffee. Have I mentioned lately how blessed I am? Not enough. Deep gratitude in my heart just now, which feels good enough to give me yet another blessing for which to be thankful.

The holiday prevent me from doing lots of my usual Monday tasks, which is a good thing, keeping me paced and focused. That's very important this week as I prepare to enter a season of travel. Looking forward to everything almost cautiously, yet with that undertone of gratitude.

Lent, whatever shall I do with ye?

... baby steps get on the elevator... baby steps get on the elevator... Ah, I'm on the elevator. [Doors close] AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Wow. I just wrote about that.

You'd almost think there was a plan or something.

(I just added an endquote that I forgot)

I saw that, baby fish mouth.

I've been wondering the same thing about Lent.

What do you usually do?

Usually nothing. Last year was the first year I observed, and I (tried to) cut out television. It was helpful.

Hmmm... I've been wondering what to cut out. But I don't even have television!

I've stopped eating sugar, but that was 10 days ago I started and it's probably not right to decide it's religious after I start :)

I guess if God has something in mind He'll tell me.
