Multiplicity

Revelation on Revelation

To my surprise, I realized this morning that I've been avoiding readings in Revelation. I know what that's connected to in my life, and some of that impulse is even healthy, but the pendulum needs to be able to swing back, too. It's God's Word, His universe, His story. It won't do me anything but harm to shut Him out of places not yet reconciled as a way to accept them and move on. His Word here is as much for me as any other. That's an important realization.

Christmas movies

Christmas movies are stocking up (get it—stocking? ha!) on my TiVo and in my DVD player. I tend to want to gorge on these as much as on baked goodies, but it's better to just pick a few to enjoy. There are a few traditional standards that I won't miss: It's a Wonderful Life (which I'm saving for a post-Christmas viewing) and Patrick Stewart's version of A Christmas Carol (I also like listening to the audiobook version so I can hear him shout "kalangalang!" and croon an off-key version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"). TiVo also decided I'd like A Christmas Story (one of my brother-in-law's favorites), and I'm snagging The Nightmare Before Christmas because I've never seen it.

I'm also a big proponent of the non-traditional Christmas movie. Number one with a bullet on my list is The Long Kiss Goodnight (get it—with a bullet? ha!), which has a permanent place in my Non-Traditional Christmas Film Festival. A few others eligible choices are Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Batman Returns, and Gremlins.

Other favorites out there, traditional and non?
