In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Just finshed reading the book of Judges. There's a lot of the Bible I don't understand, and Judges easily makes the top five. It has some of my favorite stories, including Ehud the left-handed judge, but overall it seems ridden with senselessness, even madness. I'm attracted to the book for that very reason: it speaks to the post-modern condition. I'm thinking about reading it again, in different translations and with some study aids to better understand the culture of the times. There are mysteries there.

Talk of Bible study might infer an image of righteous living on my part. That would be a lie. I've been a pig of late.

Staff meeting last night was well-attended; a good time was had by all. I drank more than might be advisable for Monday night. Alex came for the first time. I worried that he might have felt out of place and hope he didn't. He is a good man-- solid.

I don't want to work. I just want to bang on the drum all day.
