Driving north

Night rushing
past,
ribbon of highway vanishing
before and behind,
stars and brilliant crescent shining
above,
countryside surrounding
all.

Only a few headlights
hint at other travellers;
all have their own strange business
to spur them at this hour.
Not one story is stranger than ours.

Reflected stripes leap
toward us
as we hurtle forward,
onward,
north,
toward our destin(y/ation).

I awakened to overhear
my companions talking up front,
low hushed tones
discussing the lunacy of
our endeavor,
yet driving all the same—
where logic falls short,
loyalty and trust manage.

As a test,
the back of my hand
touches the cool glass of
the car window.
It's the only thing that convinces me
I am not dreaming this time.

I really dig this.

Have you ever heard of Caedmon's Call? They have a song called North that I always have to crank up and wail along with.
Wow, thanks.

I only have their self-titled CD, which I've been known to crank. Sounds like I may have some shopping to do.

Re:

This particular song is on Forty Acres... a green cover.. Does the self-titled one have a face with a hand over it? I've been meaning to get that one.

I'll look when I get home. Too bad we can't trade CDs via LJ. Ah, Napster– you are missed.
Yup– face over hand. Wanna trade?

Re:

Hmmm... I'm awfully fond of this CD.. would you promise to be nice to it?
I'd promise. My other, neatly organized and alphabetized CDs can vouch for my character.

Re:

Mine are also alphabetized... really there's no other way to keep them. How the heck would you find one when you wanted to listen to it if they were all stacked haphazardly?
My thoughts exactly. Would you believe there are people who think this makes me anal? Anarchists.

Re:

no... anal is when you color coordinate your sock drawer.
This alphabetizing is very practical.
